The first interview of Artcore magazine: The German electronic/progressive house music producer, Lars Brodherr, aka DJ Larse … We are pleased to have him answer some of our questions…
How did your relationship with music begin? Could you tell us a few things about your first music steps?
I first started makin’ music in the early 90’s.
Me and a friend, tried to build up a Hip Hop Crew, he was the MC, me the DJ!
I bought an old Sampler and an Atari 1040St at that time and started to sample my Dad’s R’n’B Records, like Marvin Gaye, the Motown stuff etc…
At that time, I also began to collect records and started deejaying as well, mainly Hip Hop Stuff. Later it all went straight to Dance Music/House!
Which moment throughout your career was the most significant?
This is hard to tell, I think one big step was in 2000- when I started my weekly radioshow in Cologne on 1LIVE (every Friday night from 20.00- 1.00). I’ll be doing this for 12 years right now! Incredible long time for a show like this ;)
For me as a DJ/ Producer, I think the most significant moment was, when NOIR released my track “The More I Want”! At that point, a lot of people recognized my sound and many big names played it out!
What expectations do you have from your visit in Greece?
I’ve been to Greece twice this year and had such a good time! I had gigs in Athens and Thessaloniki, where I met so many nice people and saw many nice places… I’m really lookin’ forward to come back, for the party, the people, the sun, the food!
Could you tell us a few things about the creative process of making music? What is your favorite part in it?
It depends. Sometimes I start with the bassline, sometimes with the drums and the programming- I don’t know. I got one thing in mind and start to work it out, you know- maybe I listen to some music and I get inspired… Otherwise, I hear a vocal and try to build something around… I like the progress of the whole work, from start to finish! I like to play the synths, the drum. I also love getting the final mix and the arrangement…everything needs to be done!
What is your music dream-goal?
Hopefully, to be able to make music in the future, to go on, grow and become better! I like that kind of living; traveling, spending hours in the studio, playing in clubs, meeting people…There are so many shades in being a dj and I like it!
What message are you trying to send with your music?
That’s simple: Love (laughing)
